OMG I’m starting my next book!
and I'm so excited about it that I'm writing about it on a Saturday night! I know!
first thing first, before I go on: If you receive this email is because, once maybe in the past, you subscribed to my mailing list or via my patreon.
as I explained 3 months ago, I migrated to substack from mailchimp because I didn’t want to pay for a newsletter platform -since I’m not here to sell per se- and mailchimp was more for marketing/corporations than for creators.
I love it here. what I also like is the fact that all the emails stays in the archives like a sort of blog. (AND I can also record and host my podcast here)
Thank you to everyone staying with me here. There is nothing more important to an independent artist and author than the people who see/read/watch their art :)
I literally couldn’t do it without you. :)
and speaking of doing, since January 2 I started planning/writing/sketching my next book and IT’S EXCITING!
I plan to be writing here more often to document the creative process... I will keep a post a week for sure for the BALBOA PARK PODCAST + maybe one “work in progress” if I can manage it, to keep you updated on my way of working (this can be interesting if you’re yourself an artist/author OR if you like to know HOW my work is born) AND for keeping myself accountable.
If you decide that you’d like less emails, before unsubscribing, you can change your substack settings, opting to receive notifications in the substack app instead of your inbox. You can also change your email settings so that newsletter subscriptions go to a specific folder.
if you never opened the email in the app, you can find it here and give it a try:
ok, so I did 2 little Video-logs to tell about the very starting of the creative process of doing a book (my way). please reply to this email (or comment) to tell me if the video format is something fun or if you prefer the written version! :)
I started by going to the french version of Office Depot to buy FOLDERS, why? let’s look at the short video:
(so the original pages of book I show in the video are from Transformer and Play With Fire )
then I assembled some books to use as reference AND as talisman and I invested a “new” (not so new if you listened to this episode) work space, check it out:
(don’t mind the “tik tok logo” in this video, I couldn’t find a way to assembly the videos I did so I did it on tiktok! but they’ve changed policy and i wasn’t able to download my video BEFORE the upload (in order to avoid the logo!) so I had to post it with a private visibility to save it :P )
one of those books is more dear to my heart than the others and this is Lou Sullivan diaries.
Louis Graydon Sullivan (June 16, 1951 – March 2, 1991) was an American author and activist known for his work on behalf of trans men. He was perhaps the first transgender man to publicly identify as gay,[1] and is largely responsible for the modern understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity as distinct, unrelated concepts.[2]
and wikipedia also says:
Sullivan was a pioneer of the grassroots female-to-male (FTM) movement and was instrumental in helping individuals obtain peer-support, counselling, endocrinological services and reconstructive surgery outside of gender dysphoria clinics. He founded FTM International, one of the first organizations specifically for FTM individuals, and his activism and community work was a significant contributor to the rapid growth of the FTM community during the late 1980s.[3]
I feel a strong connection to a Trans FTM that is found of journaling, guess why? :)
and he was so cute! here with hi TOP SURGERY scars!
so I decided to self tattoo Lou Sullivan’s SIGNATURE under MY top surgery’s scars
ok that’s pretty it for today.
for now there’s no drawing or sketches to show, it’s way too soon to disclose them!
5 shirtless pics from 2 trans men should do :D
I’m going back to work, take care!
xxx
